Braintree Village is set to welcome back its open-air cinema in time for the late May Bank Holiday weekend.

The Outdoor Cinema at the Essex shopping outlet will screen 10 movies over four days with the line-up including family favourites, blockbuster hits and much-loved classics.

Launching on the evening of Friday May 23, the Braintree Village Outdoor Cinema will be open all weekend until the night of Monday May 26.

Daytime screenings throughout the weekend include the recently released Wicked and Moana 2 movies along with Barbie, Toy Story, Shrek and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The four showcase evening movies will be The Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia!, Grease and Dirty Dancing. Gates will open 45 minutes in advance of advertised start times.

The purpose-built Outdoor Cinema will be located adjacent to the North Car Park – where the popular festive ice rink was held for Christmas and Big Kid Circus was hosted this Easter.

Food will be available to purchase within the cinema as well as throughout the outlet’s eateries and brands, however guests can also opt to bring their own snacks and refreshments. Guests are welcome to bring their own deckchairs, cushions and blankets to enjoy the show.

Tickets for the Braintree Village Outdoor Cinema are available to book now, priced at just £5, while children under one are free at all times. Free tickets will also be on offer for carers and some screenings will be available with subtitles.

Josef O’Sullivan, centre director of Braintree Village, commented: “We’re really excited to welcome back the wonderful Outdoor Cinema for the late May Bank Holiday weekend, after such a successful debut last summer. It’s a fantastic experience for guests, whether they’re visiting especially for the cinema, or as part of a full day out here at Braintree Village.”
