Property developer and investor, and owner of the Brunswick shopping centre, Scarborough Group International (SGI) has partnered with Scarborough Sixth Form College to celebrate this year’s LGBTQ+ Pride month.

Bunting featuring crocheted rainbows and a series of brightly-coloured graphic banners created by students from the College as part of their ‘Art Aspire’ group, have been hung around the upper mall of the centre as a visual expression of their commitment to celebrating diversity and equality.

The collaboration was the brainchild of the Brunswick’s marketing team and involved a group of 20 pupils studying subjects ranging from A-Level Fine Art, Graphics and Textiles, to BTEC Fashion and Art Foundation, coming together over a period of four weeks to create the pieces.

Commenting Naomi Stockill, Teacher at Scarborough Sixth Form College, said: “By creating the artwork, our students have had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of various gender and sexual identities which will hopefully encourage them to be more inclusive both in school and within the community.”

Stephen Marriott, Centre Manager at the Brunswick, commented: “We welcome people from all walks of life at the Brunswick and wanted to show our support for Scarborough as a diverse and inclusive community. We hope our visitors will take the time to view the installation and appreciate the hard work that’s gone into creating it so that we can create a stronger and more inclusive community.”
