Following a major refurbishment, The Gracechurch Centre has opened its first ‘Changing Places’ facility, which will enable local people with profound learning or physical disabilities to use the bathroom facilities at the centre safely and comfortably.

The new facility addresses the town’s need for better provision for people living with disabilities. To use the bathroom in safety and comfort, many people require access to Changing Places facilities, which have more space and are fully equipped with adult-sized, height adjustable changing benches and hoists.

Cllr Jane Mosson, Mayor of Royal Sutton Coldfield, said: “It’s fantastic to see the completion of the Changing Places facility in the Gracechurch Centre. It will improve accessibility and provide the right equipment, space and environment for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, as well people with other physical disabilities such as spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis.”

Scott Linard, Director of Asset Management for M&G Real Estate, which invested in and oversaw the delivery of the new facilities, commented: “This is a very positive leap forward in making The Gracechurch Centre and Sutton Coldfield as a whole a more accessible destination for shoppers, regardless of their needs.

“As a business, we aim to respond to the needs of the communities we operate in and hope our investment will make a real difference to locals living with disability, as well as their families and carers.”
