Former Grosvenor director to oversee Merry Hill Regeneration

Former Grosvenor Director Miles Dunnett has been appointed to the board of Merry Hill to oversee the retail destination’s regeneration.

Dunnett previously spearheaded the £1 billion development of Liverpool One as the landmark shopping destination’s director of portfolio management.

Miles Dunnett commented on his appointment: “The potential Merry Hill has to offer shoppers and occupiers across the West Midlands and wider region is second-to-none and I am delighted to be playing a part.

“Having spent a decade positioning Liverpool Oneto become one of the most highly-regarded shopping destinations in Europe, I understand the value that diverse and knowledgeable teams bring to the table when delivering projects of this scale. Their agility, flexibility and determination is needed now more than ever if we are to rise to new challenges, especially in today’s post-Covid landscape.

“The current industry-wide challenges are well known, and so the sector must adapt and evolve to meet the rapidly changing demands and aspirations of consumers, whose appetite for social, unique and memorable experiences, whether retail or non-retail, is only set to grow further. It is fundamental that destinations like Merry Hill are also able to combine this with ease and convenience, to ensure it is catering to customers’ needs, whether they are looking for something to enjoy in their leisure time, or at the moments they are more time starved.

“Ultimately, to be successful, a shopping centre’s purpose must extend far beyond that of its traditional role as a retail hub. The rise of remote working, online shopping and growing consumer demand for experiential activities open up a wealth of possibilities for large-scale retail destinations like Merry Hill – but only if transition is executed correctly.

“As we set out on a journey of transformation and reinvigoration, I am certain that we will deliver on our vision to create a beacon of best-in-class retail and leisure in the West Midlands.”
