Contractors appointed and work begins on £155m extension

The Crown Estate, on behalf of the Fosse Partnership, has appointed contractors to deliver its £155 million development at Fosse Park in Leicester, with works commencing on site on 1 April 2019.

The development is set to cement Fosse Park’s position as one of the UK’s leading shopping destinations. It will deliver a new retail extension as well as a re-developed food court, broadening the offer for shoppers by creating a total of 13 new retail stores and 16 additional food and beverage units.

Bowmer + Kirkland, the contractor that originally built Fosse Park almost 30 years ago, has been appointed to deliver the new development, along with Fox Lloyd Jones as project managers.

At the same time the Crown Estate is investing a further £4.9m to continue its successful project to modernise store facades at Fosse Park, and deliver improvements in the car park and surrounding public realm.

The extension, due to be completed in 2020, will further enhance what is already one of the UK’s most successful shopping parks, which currently attracts 11 million visitors a year.

Senior Asset Manager Mike Bell said: “Today marks an important milestone in our investment at Fosse Park, where we’re focused on continuing to improve our offer for visitors. We are excited for construction to begin and look forward to working closely with our contractors and Fosse Park’s retailers to continue building on the scheme’s success as a brilliant place for visitors, shoppers and the local community to enjoy.”
