£7.43m of Government funding for the Glass Works
The grant from the Local Growth Fund will contribute to the new retail and restaurant units, Market Kitchen – a new dining experience for Barnsley – offices, and the demolition of the former multi-storey car park.
The Glass Works redevelopment is creating a vibrant, modern town centre and retail and leisure experience, and before Christmas the latest operators were announced, including – JD Sports, Lounges, Muffin Break and local independent restaurant Meet. They join Cineworld, Superbowl UK and Next which have already committed to the scheme.
Stuart Harris, co-founder and commercial director at developer Queensberry, said: “This is a welcome start to 2019 and follows a strong finish to 2018 – which saw the commitment of four new lettings, the completion of phase 1, and the opening of the brand-new Barnsley Market. The economic impact of this transformational redevelopment in the region cannot be underestimated and we look forward to announcing further positive news throughout 2019 as Barnsley continues to attract through its multi-dimensional offering.”
