The Student Shopping Night held at Eldon Square in Newcastle Upon Tyne last month has grown once again with an increase on last year’s pre-event student sign-ups contributing to a vastly busier centre. This resulted in the event achieving a total footfall for the centre between 4pm and 8pm of 23,843 visitors, up 20% on last year.

This year’s event offered students savings from over 65 retail brands and restaurants, with exclusive discounts of up to 50% offered across food, drink, fashion and more. The offers attracted large crowds for the four-hour long event and saw an increase of 11.6% in daily footfall in the centre vs 2021.

Entertainment included DJs, a saxophonist, Junkyard Golf and roaming entertainers transforming the event from simply a shopping evening into a unique experience.

Partnering with Student Shopping UK, the Eldon Square Student Shopping Night 2022 also increased the number of retailers taking part, many of which hosted in-store activation through giveaways and entertainment.

Naomi Osborne, acting marketing manager at Eldon Square said: “This year’s Student Shopping Night was a resounding success. We had many new retailers get involved and as always offered excellent deals, discounts, bargains and an unforgettable experience for the students. It is great for the centre to play a part in helping to welcome students, new and returning, to the city.”

Alex Ludlam, managing director of Student Shopping UK, which supported the running of the event, added: “The Eldon Square event is one of our flagship nights and so, to see the centre bustling, with roaming entertainment up and down the malls and many in-store activations demonstrates just why it continues to be a popular evening for the city’s students.”.
