Discount department store to occupy ex-BHS space

Orion Capital Managers has let the former BHS store at East Kilbride shopping centre near Glasgow to TJ Hughes. The retailer has agreed a 15-year lease for a 31,700-sq ft store as part of a drive to increase its representation in Scotland. The deal follows a 3,000-sq ft letting to Flying Tiger, which has now opened next to the future TJ Hughes store.

East Kilbride Shopping Centre is one of the largest retail and leisure destinations in Scotland, extending to over 1.2 million sq ft with an annual footfall of more than 15 million. It is anchored by Debenhams, M&S, Sainsbury’s and Primark with other retailers including Topshop, Zara, French Connection and H&M. The centre also features a leisure hub which is home to Odeon Luxe, Pure Gym and numerous restaurants including Nando’s, Pizza Express and Chiquitos.

Richard Low of Orion Capital Managers said: “Footfall continues to rise thanks to these recent retail lettings and the ongoing success of the centre’s leisure hub. We are very excited about East Kilbride Shopping Centre’s upward trajectory.”

Tienda Property represented TJ Hughes. Letting agents are Savills and Eric Young & Co.
