Footwear retailer Deichmann is opening a branch at units 85-86 of the Galleries, Washington. It has signed a 10-year deal for the 3,620sq ft unit with LCP, part of M Core, the commercial property and investment company that manages the centre.

Simon Eatough, director for landlord and tenant at LCP, said: “Attracting such a well-known brand as Deichmann to the Galleries is a great endorsement of the centre and a welcome addition to our strong fashion offer. We’ve enjoyed a bumper 2023, bringing in five new tenants here, including You Know Who’s, Klass, Durham Bed Centre and One Beyond and repurposing over 20,000sq ft of retail space in the process.”

Fit out is already under way, with a planned opening date at the end of the month.

Simon Wilson, director at Deichmann said “We are extremely happy to be opening a new store in Washington creating 10 new jobs in the local area. The Galleries Shopping Centre is a fantastic addition to our presence in the North East and we look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to our brand-new store.”

The Galleries has more than 100 retailers and services over 535,000sq ft of space. It is anchored by Asda and Sainsbury’s and has an annual footfall of 10.5 million. It also has 2,500 free car parking spaces and a dedicated bus station.
