Kingsgate Shopping Centre secures raft of lettings ahead of landmark leisure opening

WD Limited, owner of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Huddersfield, has announced a raft of new retail lettings at the 280,000 q ft scheme ahead of major new leisure operator The Light opening next week.

Holland & Barrett has taken the former Body Shop unit on a five-year lease. The store totals approx 2,000sq ft. Pandora has relocated to a much larger unit of approximately 1,500sq ft and has signed a 10-year lease.

Lovisa have taken the former GAME unit for a 10-year term. The store totals approximately 850sq ft. While Boots is relocating into the centre from King Street into a store totalling approx 16,000sq ft and has agreed a 10-year lease. It will open next year.

These deals underline the attractiveness of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre as the main retail and destination in Huddersfield – a position that will be further enhanced by the opening of multi-leisure operator The Light in the former House of Fraser department store on April 11. The Light will offer a six-screen cinema, luxury bowling, arcades, climbing centre, interactive darts, karaoke and restaurants.

Steve Bateman, asset manager of the Kingsgate, said: “Huddersfield town centre is seeing some major changes with interventions from key stakeholders, including Kirklees Council to remove surplus retail and leisure. This is consolidating the prime retail and leisure pitch within and around Kingsgate Centre. We are really pleased to be welcoming these new brands to the centre.”

Other occupiers at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre include JD Sports, TK Maxx, Sports Direct, HMV, Waterstones and River Island.

KLM Real Estate and Newns Webster are the letting agents.
