Mill Gate Shopping Centre in Bury has successfully raised £1300 for Bury Hospice through its honesty library; The Book Nest. The pop-up library in the shopping centre is a place where the community can sit, read, take, swap or donate new or pre-loved books, with all monetary donations solely to Bury Hospice.

With the support of The Manchester Little Library Trail, books are donated through their services and donors, which helps keep the library well stocked.

To mark their contribution, the Mill Gate team was invited to Bury Hospice to place a Mill Gate heart on the Bury Hospice heart mural wall in recognition of their fundraising. Dale Mulgrew, the Bury Hospice events fundraiser, expressed his appreciation for the ongoing support from the centre, saying, “It was wonderful having the Mill Gate shopping centre team visit the hospice, The Book Nest is a great fundraising initiative, which the Hospice is very grateful for. It costs £7,958 a day and £2.9m a year to run Bury Hospice, and we receive 23% of our funding from the local NHS/CCG, leaving us with the huge fundraising challenge to raise more than 77% of our running costs. This is why your contribution is essential for us to continue to care.”

The success of The Book Nest highlights the importance of community collaboration and the power of donating to good causes. The Mill Gate team is proud to support Bury Hospice and its ongoing mission to provide quality care to those in need.
