Union Square and Westquay get a fitness boost with Skechers debuts

Hammerson has agreed a deal with global performance and lifestyle footwear brand, Skechers, to open its first standalone store in Aberdeen at Union Square and in Southampton at Westquay.

The new 2,260-sq ft store at Union Square will be located on the ground floor where it will trade alongside other fashion brands including Zara, River Island and Superdry.

At Westquay, the new 3,800-sq ft store will be situated on level three of the mall, where it will join River Island, Office and Superdry. The signing of Skechers at Westquay marks the centre’s tenth new brand to join its line-up this year, following the arrival of Hugo Boss, Lovisa, Joules and Smiggle amongst others.

Brands such as Skechers cater to an ever-growing demand from consumers for athleisure and wellbeing products. Across Hammerson’s portfolio, this category has consistently outperformed and a number of athleisure brands have chosen to increase their physical footprint with larger flagship stores, including JD Sports at Silverburn, Glasgow and Brent Cross, London.

Iain Mitchell, Commercial Director at Hammerson, said, “Skechers is a great addition to the retail mix at Union Square and Westquay. Both centres are the leading retail and leisure destinations in their respective catchments, and as such, are the perfect choice for international brands such as Skechers looking to gain a foothold in the regions.”
